PREPARATORY QUESTIONS

JUMBLED SENTENCES

PREPARATORY SET-83 (OLD PATTERN)

Direction (Qs.1-5): The following sentences form a paragraph. Only the 4th sentence is given. The rest of the sentences are alphabetized as (P), (Q), (R), (S), (T) and (U). These six parts are not given in their proper order. Read the sentences and choose the alternative that arranges them in the correct order.

(P)  When we know that a speech or a written appeal is designed to alter our views, we are often    not likely to be affected by it.

(Q) When we watch television, we fully expect there to be commercials, and we know full well     that these messages are designed to persuade us to purchase various products.

(R) This is because forewarning influences several cognitive processes that play an important role     in persuasion.

(4)  Research on the effects of such advance knowledge – known as forewarning indicates that it does.

(S)  Similarly, we know that when we listen to a political speech that the person delivering it is attempting to persuade us to vote for him or her.

(T)  The question then is whether knowing about the persuasive intent behind these messages help     in resisting them.

(U)  It provides us with more opportunity to formulate counterarguments – those that refute the        massage – and that can lessen the message’s impact.
